While Carson was at Camp Ridgecrest he was voted as the Honor Camper for his tribe (first session 2021). We were SO proud of him. The director of the camp texted Daniel on the day of the vote to let us know that Carson was chosen as honor camper by a unanimous vote from the staff members of his tribe.
This was a big deal! Daniel and I both spent a lot of years working for camps. We know what kind of honor it would be for all staffers to choose one kid-- that means that many staff were choosing a camper that was not in their cabin. But they still knew him and recognized some good qualities in him.
Honor Camper means he was kind to others, respectful of authority, listened and followed instructions, and had a good attitude for essentially all activities at camp.
It is such a pleasure as a parent for other people to see all the good things you see about your kid. To notice positive qualities and to really just enjoy your child.
It was a heart-bursting-with-love-and-pride kind of moment and I think I will remember it always.
When we pulled into camp to pick him up, so many staff came up to say sweet things about Carson. These are all college kids who took the time to seek us out to tell us stories about his time there. To tell us that he was a joy to have at camp. What a sweet gift. Staff and campers cheered and lined up to tell him goodbye. It was like picking up a celebrity 😂😂
We are so thankful for the role that summer camps have played in our lives and the lives of our boys... and so proud of Carson for the joy that he just carries with him everywhere he goes.
