Florida Trip! May 2022

A very great benefit of homeschool is getting to choose when to travel! The boys and I headed down to Florida in May (between the Spring Break and summer crowds). Taking the boys to Florida will forever be one of my favorite memories I have made with them over these years of their childhood. I love taking them home, and doing some of the things we did as kids (like Disney!).

The time we flew down and stayed for about a week. As always, we had the best time. And stayed super busy :)

On the airplane! They really love to fly.

The first outing was Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa. Seeing this koala was definitely a highlight of Carson's year.

The second event was Legoland! I'll be sad when they outgrow Legoland one day...

Carson is a rock star at the Ninjago ride.

We spent one day in Bartow, feeding the birds, hanging out with the dogs, swimming, and just resting before heading to the final big leg of our trip!

I really wanted to go back to Fort Wilderness and into the Magic Kingdom so we made it happen! My mom rented an RV and we stayed for a few days. I LOVE Fort Wilderness. It is one of my favorite places.

For our day at the Magic Kingdom, my dad and I took the boys and we spent the whole day there. It was really, really, perfect.

A highlight of the day was definitely that my boys got to meet my sister, Kayle for the first time! I loved seeing her again after many years.

Gem mining at Fort Wilderness.

We did lots of swimming.

And had the best meal at the Trail's End Restaurant.

Making s'mores.

Campfire and movie night!

Picnic :)

And, back to Bartow before flying out the next day.

Carson has a really sweet bond with these dogs, especially Bella 💖

Carver is obsessed with eat at Catfish Country. We usually go more than once because he loves it so much.

I can't wait to go back. Every trip to Florida is better than the last 😀

Dear Carver: On Your THIRTEENTH Birthday

 Dear Carver,

Tomorrow you turn 13. I am just stunned that you are already here, at your teenage years. The years really do just pass too quickly.

And this has been such a big year for you. It was hard on all of us to end our homeschooling journey. We all loved it-- there were hard days for sure, but overall, it was exactly what we needed to do for those two years.

And then this year it was time for you to go back to school outside of the home and that was the absolute best decision we could have made for you.

You have THRIVED this year. We have seen so much growth over these first months of seventh grade at The Learning Community. Academically you are doing so well, but what I really love is this new social growth I am seeing. You have made so many friendships. You have been challenged to do things like public speaking, sharing in small and large groups, making presentations in different classes and you are just doing it! You were able to force yourself to take this new step into middle school at a completely new place, with all new people and new expectations and challenges and you have just handled it all so well.

I am so incredibly proud of you.

You and I have always felt a little like a team. We are a lot alike-- unfortunately you got some of my weaknesses...but some of my strengths too. I love that you still (usually) want me around. That you like to do things just the two of us. You are quick with affection-- in words and actions. You have a very dry sense of humor and a quick wit (this reminds me of your Uncle Lyle). You are smart and a good friend. You have shown a ton of responsibility regarding your school work.

You are just becoming more. I see constant glimpses of the teen and eventual adult you will be and it is bittersweet but also sort of thrilling. I can't WAIT to see who you will become. What you will do. The choices you will make. Being a parent really is just the greatest, and hardest, thing in the whole wide world.

My word for you for this year is courage. It is my hope that you continue to try new things. That you grow in confidence in any situation. And that you are brave and courageous in all you do. Courageous in living and speaking in truth-- even if the world doesn't agree. Courageous in loving people in big ways. Courageous in being authentically you.

And remember, all that matters in this life is Jesus. Knowing Him. And loving him. Keep your eyes on Him and you will always follow the right path. Know that no matter what mistakes you make, Jesus is always there. There is nothing you can do to separate yourself from the love of God. You are HIS. Nothing matters more on this earth. Love God and love others. Study his Word so you know, without doubt, what is true. Allow God to use you in incredible ways, this year, and all the years to come.

You are so precious to me. Your daddy and I love you to the moon and back, a thousand times over.

Your grandparents love you. Your brother loves you. Your cousins love you. Your aunts and uncles love you. Your friends love you.

You are loved by so many people. Never forget your worth, because it is immeasurable.

You make my life better every single day, just by being you.

Happy 13th birthday, Carver!

Love, Mama
