Thanksgiving Travels Part 1: Savannah and St. Augustine

We decided to pull the boys out of school early and head down to Florida for the week of Thanksgiving. We don't take too many trips just the four of us, so we made a couple of stops on the way down for some family outings.

We took a lot of really long road trips when I was growing up. We would leave super early in the morning, and as soon as it was daylight, we were allowed to open our Fun Packs. It is such a fond childhood memory for me. (Thanks Mom!) Somehow I was able to inherit two of our old Fun Packs and now I use them for my boys. A family tradition, I guess :)

First stop: Savannah

Dinner at The Pirates' House. Which always makes me think of Courtney and Darin's wedding. (Their rehearsal dinner was here, and then Daniel and I got engaged the next day!)

He loved the pirate gear.

Honey pecan chicken. Delicious.

After dinner we went on a carriage ride. I'm pretty conflicted about this because of horses-- the whole animal rights thing. I asked a  few questions from our guide (who was nice and kind of quirky) and I am still on the fence about the practice..

Next stop: St. Augustine

We chose to stop in St. Augustine because we wanted to take the boys on a pirate cruise. Mission accomplished.

They love and adore hotels. We stayed in the historic district, very close to the fort.

Waffles. Even better than they look.

On Sunday, mom and dad came up to St. Augustine for the day. We went on a trolley tour and to some museums. Then we ended the day with dinner at a cute restaurant by the water. It was a great day, the only downside was that I was fairly miserably sick (cold, cough, etc). Otherwise- perfect!
